What is the Independence March?
The first Independence March passed through the streets of Warsaw on 11 November 2010. From that moment until today the March has grown into the largest patriotic demonstration in Europe. Its organiser is the “Independence March” Association.
Currently each edition of the Independence March gathers even 250,000 Poles every year who proudly demonstrate their national identity. The Independence March has therefore become a permanent part of Warsaw’s 11th of November landscape and for many Poles it has already become a duty on Independence Day.
Poland’s future is in our hands!
However, our mission does not end on 11th of November. In the face of contemporary challenges, every day we stand guard over Polish identity, sovereignty and the national interest, as well as the Christian order best expressed by the motto “God, Honour, Fatherland”. We shape successive generations of Poles in the spirit of these values, passing on to them the essence and heritage of the national idea.
The Independence March has become not only an annual event, but a dynamically developing social movement and a great force that influences the social, political and media spheres, and consequently also the consciousness of Poles. It gathers around itself patriotic-conservative communities and hundreds of thousands of citizens who wish to express their attachment to Polish national heritage. That is why, just as years ago people spoke of the “Solidarity” Generation, today we increasingly and proudly speak of the Independence March Generation.
In the current socio-political conditions the Independence March is needed more than ever before. Saint John Paul II said: “The fate of the Fatherland today lies in your hands, not tomorrow! Tomorrow will be what you yourselves create. May it not be a tomorrow without a Fatherland.” In this spirit, aware of this very responsibility, as the “Independence March” Association we work for our country throughout the year.
